Human Resources professionals have challenging and rewarding roles that directly impact General Mills' success. Entry-level assistant HR manager positions are available in both our manufacturing facilities and in our Minneapolis headquarters. A typical first assignment might be a generalist position in a manufacturing location or a specialist position in recruiting, training or compensation at our World Headquarters in Minneapolis. Our assignments are designed to challenge and develop you, offering immediate responsibility.
A typical career will include both generalist and specialist positions, since these require different skills and help people to develop in different ways. Beyond the Assistant HR Manager role, the successful HR professional can advance into roles of greater responsibility including HR manager, director and vice president.
Training and Development
New Human Resources team members participate in Human Resources "U"- an in-depth orientation/perspective-building program designed to accelerate the understanding of our company and our Human Resources function. The program focuses on our business objectives and HR philosophy, structure, systems and competencies. Plus, networking events into the program help you develop strong relationships with other HR professionals. HR "U" is held 1-2 times per year and is most often conducted within your first 6-12 months with our team.
In addition to HR "U", General Mills offers a wealth of specialized training courses through our Learning Institute to all our employees. Some of the General Mills Institute course offerings are presentation skills training, strategic communication training, and training around managing people and the organization.
You will also participate in Individual Development Planning sessions with your manager to discuss your development goals and objectives.
Education
Candidates for positions in Human Resources should have a master's degree in business administration or a master's degree in labor or industrial relations.
